For those of you who are new to Brides Up North, Nicola of Silver Sixpence in her Shoe is a vintage-inspired, bespoke, bridal accessories designer based in South Manchester. Silver Sixpence’s collection includes a stunning range of hand-made headpieces and veils, garters, shoe clips and lucky horse shoes. Her luxury bridal collection uses only the finest of antique lace, silk dupion and genuine one-off jewellery pieces. Bespoke, vintage inspired Bridal Accessories Designer, Nicola Wellard will be hosting a special Bridal headwear workshop for the very first time on Thursday 3rd May, 7pm-10pm. The DIY class will be held at boutique bake house “And the Dish ran away with the Spoon” located on Burton Road, West Didsbury.

Nicola’s Bridal “Made By You” workshop offers crafty brides, their mothers and bridesmaids a special opportunity to create a bridal headpiece, ring bearer pillow, garter or lucky horseshoe that is completely personal to them. A selection Silver Sixpence’s bespoke headwear from birdcage veils to flapper inspired headbands will be on show for brides to see. Nicola’s hand-crafted headwear collection draws on styling influences from the roaring 20’s right the way through to modern times and provides brides with imaginative inspiration.

At the beginning of the workshop attendees will be provided with a selection of luxury, vintage fabrics such as Russian veiling, antique lace and silk as well as an array of pretty embellishments including one-off jewels, plush goose and ostrich feathers, vintage pearls, gems and unique buttons. Brides and their friends will also be given all of the relevant millinery materials required to make their headwear. To add a personal touch to your headpiece, Nicola suggests bringing along a special trinket or family heirloom.

Silver Sixpence Bridal “Made by You” workshops cater for all levels of sewers, from those who can’t thread a needle to those who are more experienced. Throughout her classes, Nicola offers one to one guidance to help perfect your sewing technique and suggest ways in how to personalise your headpiece. Silver Sixpence workshops take place in Manchester’s most quirky teahouses and are lovely, relaxed socials where brides can come along to share tips, tricks and inspiration.

Silver Sixpence’s three hour Bridal “Made By You” workshop is priced £50 per person and is inclusive of all sewing materials, a pot of tea, yummy piece of homemade cake and of course your hand-crafted headpiece to take away with you!
