It’s raining cats and dogs outside pretty much everywhere in the North of England today – but hopefully today’s pretty summer Real Wedding sent to me by Real Bride Carrie and J Clitheroe Photography will serve of a reminder that sunnier skies are just around the corner!

Let’s hear from the bride: We got engaged on 10th July 2010 – my birthday – John took me and the dog on a romantic picnic by Aysgarth Falls. He got down on one knee, when I said yes as if there was someone watching over us the church bells in the distance started ringing.

We were married on 18th June 2011 at our beautiful local church All Saints in Bubwith followed by a marquee reception in the garden. We wanted to make the day as unique to us as we could and by having the marquee we could adapt everything to our taste.

We didn’t have a specific theme, but I wanted everything to be relaxed as possible so that we could enjoy the day with everyone. Sweets played a big part in the wedding as John is sweet mad, but I just really wanted something simple but stylish. I kept to lemon and creams for the colour scheme – I thought it would bring a fresh feel to the day and hopefully make the sun shine!

My wedding dress was a Cymbeline dress from Brides of York. It was being discontinued as they no longer had any of the lace left and they had not sold one around York which made it all a bit more special. It was an A line dress layered with lace and had a bow wrapped round my waist and tied at the back. I got the heebie jeebies when I tried it on and I just knew it was the right one – it made me feel like a princess.

I am useless when it comes to flowers – my brief to the florist was something hand tied with lots of different creams, I still don’t know what was in it – but she definitely came up trumps from the ‘brief’ brief.
.
My flower girl was in an ivory dress from Debenhams – she came with us to choose which one she wanted to wear. My other bridesmaids were in knee length lemon chiffon dresses that we had ordered online. We used York Hire Wear for the men’s suits.

We used J Clitheroe Photography for our photos – we wanted someone who would allow us to relax and allow us to enjoy our day. Jackie & Andrew were brilliant with us and our requests.

I wanted to have joint name cards and favours – so I ordered some jars and filled them with different pastel colour sweets – everyone had a jar with their name and the date on. I made them a top and my friend (she’s a godsend) then tied them on with ribbon.
.
I designed my own cake – I wanted something slightly different but simple. We had a 3 tiered cake, two fruit which were made by the mothers and then drowned in alcohol by me and a sponge cake on top. We tiered them using square glass vases to match the table flowers and then had live flowers in the vases.

We had prepared a first dance – a bit cheesy but John had said he didn’t just want to go round in circles. We had practiced it but on the day it didn’t go quite to plan as my shoes kept falling off and it’s a lot more difficult in a full length dress – but we really enjoyed it and by concentrating it meant we didn’t notice the room watching as much.
.
We had a DJ for the evening do – I had asked all my guest to choose three songs that they would like to hear, I gave them to the DJ and asked him to get the dance floor rocking. He did such a great job – the dance floor was busy all night long.

We truly loved the whole day – from getting all the guests together to the speeches to watching everyone having a ball at the end of the day. It was all just spot on.

We spent a lovely weekend in the Lake District for our Honeymoon although it did rain for most of it!

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to enjoy every moment of it – to stop for a minute to take it in and enjoy it as much as your guests. At the end of the day its your day.

Congratulations Carrie & John!
