Afternoon all.  The sun has finally decided to make a brief appearance where I am today and in true British style we are preparing to fire up the BBQ.  Wahey!  Wherever you are and however you are enjoying the extended Jubilee weekend, I hope that you are having a good one.

.

You’ve still found time to visit Brides Up North over the weekend though (thank you for dropping by in your thousands – I thought you’d all be far too busy sinking the Pimms!), so I am thrilled to share another beautiful bridal shoot today sent to me by Laura of Perfect Choice Planning.  This is also a wedding blog fashion exclusive to celebrate the launch of Look Darling, a brand new beautiful online shop (by Emma, the wedding blogger behind Fifties Wedding no less) that aims to offer a selection of stylish and affordable 50s style wedding and evening gowns for lovers of vintage style.  I hope you like it, and pop by tomorrow morning for the second instalment!

Laura says: In April, after many months of correspondence and planning, a beautiful shoot was brought together in Southport with some wonderful suppliers. The whole shoot was based around the gorgeous collection of dresses at Look Darling, a new addition to the North West wedding suppliers sector.

The business seed for Look Darling was planted after the lovely owner, Emma searched high and low for a genuine vintage gown for her own wedding but was unable to fit into the tiny vintage sizes. Bringing together the best in high-end vintage-inspired styles, Look Darling offers affordable tea-length wedding dresses from key designers, including top US brands Dolly Couture and Fancy New York, as well as her own collection of dresses; the Look Darling Collection. Look Darling now has a studio in Meols, on the Wirral for appointments, meaning brides can try before they buy! You can find out more by checking out her website.

Emma Lester, the owner of Look Darling brought me in to organise, coordinate and style a shoot to get some inspiring and stunning images of her dresses and accessories so she could use them on her website, adding that personal touch. We needed an idea, a location and of course a photographer who was perfect for the vintage-feel. Cue Catharine Noble Photography, a photographer duo of Catharine and James, who specialise in vintage-style lifestyle and wedding photography – and they saw our vision perfectly.

I wanted to keep the feel of the shoot fun and fresh, to suit the dresses. In addition, to market these stunning dresses and accessories, we agreed right from the beginning that a subtle red, white and blue theme was a great combination with a town that has kept a vintage feel; Southport. We decided this would be the perfect touch, especially with the Jubilee being this year and the Queen being crowned in the era these dresses are styled around. Our models were our very own Emma from Look Darling, allowing her to be an advocate for her business, and the gorgeous Tanya, who pouted, shivered and posed perfectly throughout our many locations on the day.

Emma said: “I was really keen to collaborate with Laura on a photo shoot, as I had seen her previous work and how she has a talent for creating beautifully styled images.  When she suggested Catharine Noble Photography to work with us, I fell in love with their vintage style images that almost look as though they are from a bygone era – nostalgic and pretty.  Everyone we worked with on the day was such fun and it was a very relaxed atmosphere.  This was helped by Laura’s impressive organisation skills and close attention to detail, which meant everything ran like clockwork on the day. I also loved being a model for the day – I’ve never done anything like this before but I enjoyed every minute of it.  It is more tiring than you would think though!”

We started at The Vincent Hotel as our magnificent base and location for a lot of the day. The hotel is absolutely fabulous with equally amazing staff; they were incredibly accommodating and helpful as we roamed through many rooms and facilities, including the Spa, Cocktail Bar, function suites and bedrooms that were made available for our use.

In addition to the location of The Vincent Hotel and products from Look Darling, we also had the fabulous Love Umbrellas who created and supplied red, white and blue umbrellas to add to the feel and theme. Our highly talented make-up artist for the day was Naomi Hardiker, who was a great support on the day and an absolute pleasure to work with. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her in the future, like all the suppliers I worked with on the day.

Love Gets Sweeter Films were also able to join us later on in the day to capture some of the action from the day – watch out for the behind the scenes video coming up tomorrow on the wedding blog! I have personally been trying to work with Charlene, the owner, ever since we met and hit it off at the 2011 Brides Up North Tweet Up North West. It was a pleasure to work with her, and I’d hope she would say the same even if I possibly ruined some of her amazing footage by stepping in front of the camera all the time! Beware the silent ninja!

Finally, I have a special mention to make to the girls at Regis in Southport who, after a last minute let down from a hair-stylist-who-shall-remain-nameless, fit our incredible models in between their very understanding clients to rescue our 50’s hair styling dilemma. I particularly want to thank the fantastic hair stylists at Regis, Southport who styled Emma’s and Tanya’s hair perfectly, despite being thrown in at the deep end!
