Before we get going with today’s main event, I have a twinkly little announcement to make! Brides Up North Featured Supplier Damselle Tiaras are running a competition for one lucky bride to be to win her wedding jewellery.
.
You can choose from one of eleven sets by Polly Edwards and all you need to do is either register on the Damselle Tiaras’ website or alternatively email them at enquiries@damselle-tiaras.com with the words "Polly Edwards Jewellery Competition". The winner will be chosen at random and announced on Sunday 5th August. Good Luck!

Now, on with the show – a beautiful wedding on the Wirral shot entirely in black and white at the request of the bride and groom and sent to me by friend of the wedding blog Matt Bowen Photography and real bride Rachel. Some things are better in shades of grey… right ladies?

Rachel says: We got engaged on 11th September 2010 in Manchester, and married on 18th May 2012 at The Hillbark Hotel on the Wirral. We chose our venue because it has so much character, we loved it as soon as we stepped in!

I chose an ivory strapless princess dress with pearl and crystal detail from Bridal Italia Couture in Bolton, and carried of white and ivory roses and flowers from DebFlorist.

My bridesmaids wore long gowns with spaghetti straps in a deep red wine colour again from Bridal Italia Couture in Bolton.

We asked Matt Bowen, our photographer, to capture our day completely in black and white to create a striking and romantic set of images.

It’s really difficult to choose my favourite part of the day. The ceremony was lovely, the meal was amazing, the speeches were fab, the our covers band and singers were brilliant.

Instead of having a definite theme as such, we just added things into the day that we love! For example instead of table numbers we had our favourite bands (we used the CD covers to identify which table was which and instead of a huge cake we ordered 200 assorted Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Wee did have one tier of cake to cut but we thought the doughnuts would go down better. And they did!
.
At each table we had butterfly pins for the ladies’ favours. Each one we bought contributed money to Cancer Research.

We honeymooned for four lovely days in Guernsey. We are going away again later on in the year… either Vegas or somewhere a little less expensive!

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to try not to worry so much… hand everything over to bridesmaids, best men and the venue on the day – and make sure that you just enjoy it!

Congratulations Rachel & Stuart!
