Welcome to Sunday Brides Up North.  I thought I’d spoil you today with a beautiful Summer garden party wedding (the gorgeousness of which the rain couldn’t even spoil) in East Yorkshire.  When my friend and Brides Up North Featured Supplier Helen Guy Make Up Artist – the lady responsible tor this bride’s fabulous wedding day look – told me all about Samantha and Paul’s beautiful marquee wedding at home in their lovely garden I couldn’t wait to share it with you here.

.

With images by Stephen Quinn Photography and words by real bride Samantha, have a stunning Sunday!

Samantha says:  Paul proposed in a remote castle in Spain in October 2009 and we tied the knot on Sunday 3rd June 2012.  We got married in our garden and under English law that is not ‘official’ so we ‘officially’ got married at the registry office in our normal everyday clothes on Friday 1st June with just with our children and parents and we then had a celebrant perform a really personal ceremony with our own witty vows on the Sunday.

We chose to get married at home for several reasons. Firstly, I have an autistic son who would struggle at an unfamiliar venue with lots of people and he is comfortable at home and secondly, we renovated a derelict pub into a house which had been really hard work and we had come through it as a family and wanted to celebrate there.

.

We went for a Summer Garden Party theme with a few hints of vintage thrown in.  We used dusky pinks for the bridesmaids and flowers but anything pastel went and I had a variety of colours in my poms poms and bunting.

I wore a Maggie Sottero fitted dress, which was beautiful but that I bought two years earlier as we were planning having the wedding earlier and due to our house renovation the date got later and later… I really struggled to get into it! Ha ha!

.

Our tiaras and headpieces were stunning. They were made by hand by Crystal Tiaras in Hull along with my simple jewellery. They really were beautiful. I ordered my shoes from Spain… well the final pair as I bought about three other pairs before them!

The little bridesmaids ones wore gorgeous ‘tutu’ dresses from Angel’s Face with little bolero cardigans from Monsoon and Monsoon ballerina slippers.

.

The groom and best man had a dark navy suit made with a taupe coloured tie and handkerchief and it all matched beautifully… I certainly didn’t get a say in what they were wearing as they refused to do the typical ‘wedding suits’.

I had my make up and hair done by Helen Guy Make Up Artist who was amazing and she even fastened me into my dress!

I had an amazing mix of flowers from amnesia roses to peonies and astranthia and some bits I cant even remember the name of!  The little bridesmaids had dark pink gypsophelia balls and the chief bridesmaid had a corsage on her wrist so she could carry the all important sparkly handbag with lipstick and lipgloss hidden inside it.

We had a acoustic guitarist, Daniel Spooner, who sang when I came in and whilst signing our ‘mock’ register and he sang us out too.  We had modern soft music like… “I’m yours” by Jason Mraz, “Hey Soul Sister” and “Chasing Cars”.  My niece and chief bridesmaid sung a very touching “Nothing’s Real But Love’ by Rebecca Ferguson during the ceremony whilst being accompanied by Daniel on the guitar..

The ceremony was definitely my favourite part of the day as as it was so light hearted and personal and funny and emotional all at the same time and that really is supposed to be the main part of a wedding but it’s usually the bit that everyone wants to get out of the way. The ceremony was Paul’s favourite bit too.

I travelled from my Mum’s house in a Rolls Royce Phantom and then Paul and I went out for a little spin in it too after the ceremony to have five minutes to ourselves. We were going to have photo’s taken elsewhere but it was throwing it down!

We had a magician going round tables whilst we were eating that went down VERY well… he was called Russ Appleby. He even stayed to do a bit on the night around the bar and it was a great talking point.

Our cake was amazing!  We had a vanilla sponge and a lemon sponge but also got a small fruit cake for people that like it. The bottom tier was an actual cake box and the two top ones were decorated to look like coordinating cake boxes.

We had a jazz band in the afternoon with a party band in the evening. The girls had practised a dance on the hen weekend as one of our friends is a dancer so she choreographed it for us (very simply may I add) to “The Boy Does Nothing” to dedicate to Paul as he is useless in the kitchen and anything domestic and we performed it to open the evening ceremony… that was very funny!

After the wedding we honeymooned in Hong Kong and Thailand.

I have a few tips for other Brides Up North!  Just try to take it all in because at the end of it it all seems like a blur. Try take some time to sit down throughout and look around you at all your friends and family that have come to celebrate with you from a distance as you will be pulled from pillar to post and you hardly spend anytime together throughout the day.

.

Try and remember the whole point of the day… to get married… not to throw the best and most perfect party in the world.  Don’t stress as if it ‘s out of your control there is nothing you can do about it anyway and if something isn’t going to plan, no-one other than you will know.

.

We had glorious weather in the build up to our wedding and on the day it absolutely chucked it down and we were having everything in the garden. Most plans were for outside the marquee so I calmly sat and did a wet weather plan and got my Dad to drop it off with Paul so it took all the outdoor activities inside and the bouncy castle for the kids didn’t even get blown up!  The only disappointing thing for me was having all the photos done inside but it didn’t change the outcome… we were still married!

.

.

Congratulations Samantha & Paul!
