Brides Up North reader Catherine sent me her beautiful Real Wedding in Sheffield by Shoot Lifestyle to share on the blog with you today. Catherine played a winner by keeping her styling pretty and fresh and her guests thoroughly entertained.

Catherine says: Rob proposed on the wheel outside Selfridges in Manchester on the 18th December 2010. It wasn’t planned to stop at the top, but it did and Rob pulled the ring out and said “How about it then…” I laughed and then said yes! I can’t remember a thing about the 4 times round or the view we had.

We were married on 2nd June 2012 at St Mary’s Church, Rotherham followed by a reception at Whirlowbrook Hall in Sheffield. We fell in love with Whirlowbrook the first time we drove up the long winding driveway. The building itself is set against such a gorgeous backdrop, and is very secluded and private. We also wanted to be the only couple getting married there on that day, and Whirlowbrook was exclusively ours. We also loved that fact that they were flexible with what we wanted to do on the day.

We opted for a colour scheme of dusky pink and ivory. I fell in love with a dusky pink rose at a wedding fair quite early on in the planning process and used that as inspiration.

Dress-wise, I had an idea that I want something classic and quite simple, but finding that was quite difficult, especially when the bridal shops I visited didn’t stock dresses many dresses above a size 10! By chance I found Clare, from The Bridal House in Sheffield, and when I explained what I wanted, she said they offered a bespoke service and I could be involved in designing the dress. Clare was brilliant and helped ease the worries that I am sure most brides have, and I had a dress that no other bride would ever wear!

Clare at The Bridal House also made the dress for my adult bridesmaid. The two little bridesmaids wore dresses from John Lewis. The groomsmen wore outfits from Austin Reed.

All the flowers were either ivory or dusky pink roses. A family member did all the flowers on the day, and all of the arrangements were either larger or smaller versions of my bouquet.

Chris Hallam, a family friend, who is a jeweller designed and made our wedding rings. I wanted a wedding ring that would ‘fit’ around my engagement ring, and did this perfectly.

I cannot thank or praise Jo and Simon from Shoot Lifestyle enough, not only for the beautiful photographs that we have, but for their friendship, support and kindness. They were fantastic on the day, with all the guests, not just us!

Instead of traditional favours, we made donations to two charities that mean a lot to both our families, Macmillan Cancer Support and The British Heart Foundation.

We chose a Marks and Spencer three tiered cake, with a different flavour for each layer.

My uncle was fantastic and arranged all the music for the wedding and DJ’d throughout the night with the help of other family members. We also had two casino tables, where people could play for fun. We thought it would be a bit of fun for the boys, but it seems everyone enjoyed having a go!

The casino fun continued after the wedding as we honeymooned in Las Vegas and Barbados. We enjoyed the craziness of Vegas and the opportunity to chill out on the beach in Barbados.

It may sound clichéd, but I loved every minute of day. I had fun getting ready with some very special people, I grinned all the way down the aisle and throughout the service, and from then on, we just had fun partying. We had some very special people who were so genuinely happy for us that it was hard not to love every minute.
.
Maybe if I did have to be specific, then I would have to say the rendition of “You can call me Al’ in honour of my Dad, which was played twice and got the dance floor rocking!

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to enjoy every minute of marrying your best friend surrounded by the people that love you the most.
