Over the festive period I’ll be recapping some of my very favourite Real Weddings from the last 12 months on the wedding blog. It’s been a tough choice! In true Brides Up North style, each wedding featured on these pages is unique, beautiful and gorgeously personal. It’s been an exceptionally fabulous year! Enjoy…

Sometimes, a set in stone theme for a wedding just won’t work.  But sometimes, it absolutely does.  Cassy and Dan’s amazing wedding wonderland/ horse themed wedding – with images by the gorgeous Lissa Alexandra Photography – fits into the latter category.  What a triumph!

(I’m not *horsing around*, either.)

Lissa says:  From the moment I entered the house for bridal prep photos I knew this wedding was going to be a fun one! With six bridesmaids and a very excited bride there was a fun sense of giddiness and lots of laughter. Unfortunately we weren’t very lucky with the weather and right on cue it started to rain just as everyone headed to the church. But what a welcome we got, the vicar with stretched out open arms ready to greet everyone, there was no dampening of anyone’s spirits.

.
The service was lovely with mixed emotions of joy and sadness remembering loved ones lost. The church was beautifully decorated with flowers, candles and two bay trees similar to what Wills and Kate had. But the piece de résistance for me was the bride and groom dancing down the aisle to ‘Moves like Jagger’ by Maroon 5. It really set off the party atmosphere that was to continue for the rest of the day.

.
Cassy & Dan were collected by a stunning two horse carriage and taken for a ride around the village then to the reception. They had three Papakaka tents together as one in Dan’s parent’s field right next to the their horses field. When the bride and groom arrived they were greeted by Cassy’s horse and a display of excitement by the other field horses, it really was a wonderful sight and so lovely for Cassy and Dan – who adore their horses – to have them so integrally involved in their special day. For a big animal lover like me it was a special treat too.

Cassy says: We got engaged on 16th July 2011.  Dan proposed to me at home before taking me to our favourite little Indian restaurant in Boroughbridge where we had our first date.  We were married on 16th June 2012 in Tockwith at Dan’s parents house in Papakata tents.

We chose our wedding venue as both of us live in Tockwith as do all our friends and family so the majority of people could walk home. Papakata tents are gorgeous and very special and different to the norm. They really made our field turn into a wedding wonderland.

Our theme was ‘wedding wonderland’ so we went very natural and wilderness-like.   We used ivy on all the tent poles and made a bar and decorated it with ivy to make it look like it was growing up it. We used an old tree stump to hold the seating plan, we had logs on the tables with wild flowers set in them and used real horse shoes to decorate the chairs and to hold the table names. We then had fairy lights up all the poles in the tent round the dance floor and the entrance and a huge mirror ball.

.

We chose a colour scheme of ivory, green and lilac.

I chose a Maggie Sottero dress, and changed the neckline to a sweetheart. I actually got my dress second hand as I was very lucky to find the exact one I had chosen for less than half the price.

.

My six bridesmaids wore lilac one shoulder maxi dresses from Coast and the groomsmen wore top hats, canes and tails – traditional black with grey pin striped trousers.

We chose hymns from our primary school which everyone knew so everyone sang!  We used Can You Feel The Love Tonight from The Lion King to walk down the aisle and then we had Moulin Rouge songs while we signed the register.

I carried cream roses, with lots of green and other cream wild flowers.   We used The Plantsmiths for our flowers: she grows all her own wild flowers and she helped us so much with lots of other ideas.

We loved every second of our day but surprisingly we loved our wedding ceremony so much as we really made it personal to us with all the music we chose and especially Moves Like Jagger which we chose to dance down the aisle to, much to all our guests’ surprise.

The horse theme ran through the whole wedding, from my actual horses being there to the big horses made from wire and ivy , horse shoes on the back of the chairs, racecourses for table names and horseshoes for table name stands.

We chose a three tier lemon, chocolate and fruit cake which was shaped to match my wedding dress.

After the speeches we had the Funky Junk Trio play a set on the bins which were awesome and then they played our first song. Then we had Kings of Queen – the official queen tribute band – who are from our village.  They were amazing, there wasn’t any space left on the dance floor at all it was like being at a festival, everyone got involved!

After the wedding we honeymooned in Thailand in Bangkok and Koh Samui, it was amazing!

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to make sure that you enjoy your day and don’t spend too long talking to everyone and not spending time with your new husband, best friends and family!
