I’ve been spending the morning planning our BIG Halloween party for #weddinghourlive (are you coming?! click here for all the details), so how better to finish off the day with a gothic inspired engagement shoot in Liverpool? Bex and Cara plan to tie the knot on Halloween next year, and judging by these photographs and hearing their plans, these cool chicks are going to have one hell of a wedding.
Let’s hear their love story. With images by Nick Kennard Photography.
Cara says: Deciding to get married was a bit spontaneous really! We were on a romantic night out at our favourite bar, and after a little reminiscing we sort of just agreed to it – it’s not the most romantic proposal, but we’re just happy to be engaged! That’s good enough for us!
We’re going to get married at Thornton Hall on the Wirral, we fell in love with the venue after we realised we could have an evening wedding under the arbour outside – it might be a bit chilly, but I’m looking forward to the magical look of lots of fairy lights and lanterns in the dark! Call us unconventional, but we’re getting married on the 31st October 2014 – spooky!
We’re both alternative models, so we met on the job! Our careers as models take us to all sorts of exciting events and places, with unconventional themes, and we get to work for some weird and wonderful companies! I guess our jobs meant we already liked a lot of the same things, tattoo culture, alternative clothing and colourful hair! We met over 3 years ago now.
Our first date was at an awesome boutique bar in Liverpool called Santa Chupitos, I suppose it was just a night out, but if you’re with someone you love even the little everyday things become amazing.
We’re both a bit in love with the paranormal, so we went on a Shiverpool tour! I know ghosts aren’t the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions a romantic date, but Beth was so scared she jumped straight into my arms! I didn’t want to let her go. That’s when I knew she was the one.
We’re adventurers at heart, so we’d like to buy a little retro motorhome and travel the world – maybe we could go and enjoy the Day of the Dead festival in Mexico that inspired this shoot!
I know the engagement shoot trend is only just catching on in the UK, but we loved the idea of capturing how happy and in love we are – you’re full of electricity just after you get engaged, and that feeling is indescribable, so we thought we’d describe it in pictures instead! We spent the day at Maya in Liverpool.
We loved it. It’s made the whole thing seem very real, and now we’re just counting down the days! We also got to have fun with the fashion – which is something we both love. We got these amazing bespoke shoes designed by Elegant Steps – we just drew up designs for what we wanted and ES dyed and embellished some of their shoes for us to make the designs a reality!
Our favourite images are going to get framed and put on the wall – but we’re also going to start a scrapbook of all our experiences together – a bit like the film ‘UP’. Hopefully when we’re old we can look back on it and shed a happy tear or two.
We think the wedding industry is so concentrated in the South and in America that sometimes people forget that Northern brides are often more creative, thrifty and more willing to experiment with non-traditional weddings! We love that Brides Up North is highlighting this.
We’ll be back to share our Real Wedding images. It’s going to be an experience like no other, and it’s going to take a lot of planning, but I can’t wait for it!
Congratulations Cara & Bex!
