We’re rather excited about sharing this afternoon’s real wedding on the blog as it’s different to any we’ve featured before. This is because the wedding photographers were the bride and groom themselves. Impressive, right?

As well as organising their big day and having starring roles, Nick and Nic actually captured it all themselves too.

As partners in both life and business at Photogenick Photography, it’s clear these two are made for each other and have a talent for

freezing & framing

those key moments in life.

And as if the preparing for the wedding wasn’t enough, these guys photographed their own pre-wedding shoot too – of course!

nick says:

We got engaged in Stockholm last year on the beautiful waterfront outside the photographic gallery Fotografiska.

Our wedding date was the 4th December 2015. As we are wedding photographers, the middle of summer wasn’t an option for us. Thankfully the thought of a cool, crisp, blue skied winter’s day was very appealing though.

Our chosen venue for the ceremony was Rotherham’s Clifton Park Museum. It’s a gorgeous grade 2 listed building, built in 1783 and holding much history of Rotherham. Our wedding reception was held at The Manor Barn in Kimberworth.

We had a rustic/vintage theme to our day which we thought fit perfectly with the time of year as well as our own personal and photographic style.

Our colour scheme was varied but included some teal. All our button holes included hessian and quite muted colours to fit the rustic style. Again, this was to reflect our own personal style as well as picking up our own ideas from the many weddings we shoot.

I wore a three-piece grey suit, along with a teal coloured tie and teal/blue shoes. Pretty much all my attire was from Next.

Nic wore handmade 1950’s style knee length dress. The dress was made in the USA. Nic sourced her shoes online which were very sparkly and had a decorative flower on both sides.

We didn’t have any bridesmaids or groomsmen as such but our two boys Olen and William, wore matching outfits, which included mustard coloured trousers, funky blue and white shirts with orange bow ties and, to keep them warm, a dark blue jacket, all from Next.

We were our photographers on the wedding day. We had always decided from the start that we were going to do our own photography. Plus, being wedding photographers people had already said “so who’s doing your photography then?”

We’d told enough people that it was going to be us shooting it so there was no backing out! The reason for shooting our own wedding photography wasn’t because we thought nobody else could get the images we wanted, or because we didn’t want to pay for a photographer. Your wedding day is one of your most special moments in life, where a bond between two is sealed. We always say to our brides and grooms, what do you want to look back on in 50 years’ time? What do you want to show your grandchildren?

Reliving the feeling and atmosphere of your day is a truly exceptional skill, which we wedding photographers must possess. We wanted to capture each other and the love we felt towards each other in a personal unscripted way. Shooting how we felt at that moment.

Nic shot her own bridal preps while I shot my own morning preparations. Capturing the details of the moment, as well as our two amazing boys.

Our ceremony included our close immediate family followed by our own personal shots in the gardens of Clifton Park. The blustery and cold conditions of a British December did nothing to avert us from what we had planned. Using a tripod and timer we were able to shoot freely and create those lasting memories we’ve done for so many others. Now it was our time.

We will cherish the shots for as long as we shall live, look back in fifty years and re-live it all again.

On the wedding day Nic carried a very mixed vintage style bouquet containing gypsophila and other muted flowers, provided by a local florist Liz Draper.

In terms of décor, all the reception tables had numerous miniature jam jars with tea lights in and hessian and ribbon detail. We also shot our own pre-wedding shoot so incorporated this by displaying the images in a vintage style hanging board.

Our cake was a three tier creation, which contained fruit cake, Victoria sponge and chocolate cake. This was supplied to us by our friend and part-time cake maker, Cathie Johnson.

In the evening we had a warm buffet and a DJ for entertainment, with a little karaoke thrown in.

Following our wedding we would certainly recommend our reception venue to others. It’s a quiet old converted barn which is now a restaurant and pub with a function area on the top floor.

Our day was mainly focussed around the morning preparations, ceremony and personal shots afterwards. Our favourite parts of the day were having all our very close family together for our ceremony as well as having the opportunity to take our own shots.

We have our honeymoon booked for February, which will be trip back to Stockholm, of course!

Our top tip for Brides Up North would be – don’t stress and enjoy every moment. It’s such a big build up and brides and grooms stressing can overshadow what the day is all about.
