This afternoon we’re treating you to a stunning styled shoot that is
brimming with inspiration
for everything from the dress to the décor.Keen to celebrate his passion for mid-century design, Yorkshire based photographer Mark Newton called upon his top wedding supplier friends to help him create a styled shoot centred on the much loved era but with a modern twist.
The shoot also provided the perfect opportunity to showcase a new contemporary space available to hire for weddings at The Northern Monk Brew Co, in Leeds. If, like us, you are instantly drawn to pendant lighting and exposed brick you are going to love this place!
We’ll now hand you over to Mark so he can fill you in on all the rest of the gorgeous details (of which there are many!)…

The concept for the shoot was to create a mid-century modern style wedding setup. I initially worked closely with Emma Taylor, of Emma Weddings and Events, on how to achieve the right look as we’re both big fans of mid-century designers. When it came to picking the right venue I was aware that The Northern Monk Brew Co were in the process of putting the finishing touches to their new ‘Chapter Hall’ on the top floor of the mill and now offer the space for wedding receptions. I knew it would be perfect.

The Northern Monk Brew Co is housed in The Old Flax Store in Holbeck Urban Village, taking the ground floor for its brewery, but making full use of the rest space for the refectory and new event space, (plus there is outdoor space as well). The building retains lots of the original character, with exposed brickwork and ceilings, plus the large windows, which allow masses of daylight to pour in. In the evening the atmosphere changes to create a cosier feel. We decided we wanted to capture both sides of the space, so during the day we produced a bridal shoot, and in the evening a candle-lit meal setup.

Throughout the day we were inspired by each of the stunning Glory Days dresses worn by the models, Emma pulled together a beautiful and unique bouquet, while Louise, of Yorkshire Bridal Hair, and Carys, of Carys Catherine Makeup, worked their magic to complement the details.

Wanting to keep the feel of the shoot nice and relaxed, I made great use of the low sunlight and shadows, which added to the already superb interior.
As the day progressed and the light started to draw in we set up a single table to create a warm and cosy, romantic meal. Using plenty of gorgeous greenery Emma styled the details, using splashes of colour to add warmth to the ace logs.

The in-house caterers at the refectory are Grub and Grog, who produce wholesome seasonal dishes with fresh ingredients and a modern twist. They not only match the courses to the beers made in the brewery downstairs, but also with quality wine, soft drink and coffee producers from Leeds and beyond.
