How did you get into wedding photography?
sally says:
I always had a camera hanging from my neck from being around 11-years-old. Photography was always an interest and I’m so lucky to be able to say it developed into a passion and now my career. I worked for three years for a local photographer and then flew the nest to develop my own business.Why wedding photography specifically?
I absolutely love capturing weddings. I adore seeing two people come together and celebrate their love along with their friends and family. Every bride and groom are unique and that’s what is so exciting about being a wedding photographer – no two weddings are ever the same. This enables me to provide my couples with a beautiful, natural and timeless set of images that they can treasure for a lifetime.
What is your favourite thing about being a wedding photographer?
I adore those little moments when people don’t think anyone is watching. An intimate kiss, a cheeky wink or a full belly laugh. Raw emotion is what makes my job such a pleasure. I also love that I get the honour of presenting my couples with beautiful memories to look back on in 70 years when they’re sat in their rocking chairs reminiscing on their wedding day.
How do you get couples to relax on the day?
I’m a natural and romantic specialist so I often find that just by chatting my couples through things, making sure they are informed and the way in which I guide them through posing for the photos often puts my couples completely at ease.
Any advice to any brides who don’t like to have their picture taken?
Look for a photographer who you get along with conversationally. If the photographer makes you feel at ease in general, then they will be able to guide you through images to suit you and your partner. I pride myself on my couples not just loving their photos, but loving the whole experience.
What sort of makeup should a bride wear to look great in her pictures?
The most important thing is that you feel confident and comfortable. Go for a style of makeup that you love and ask makeup artists for trials prior to your wedding day. It’s also a great idea to tie in your makeup trial with your pre-wedding photoshoot – that way you will get an idea what your makeup looks like in camera.
Anything to avoid which might look bad in the wedding pictures?
Essentially, your wedding photos are a reflection of you and your day. Although there isn’t anything ‘bad’ you can do, I often warn brides to avoid self-tanning prior to their wedding day as not only could it stain their dress, it also makes the skin look very orange on camera.
Which celebrity wedding would you most like to photograph and why?
I love elegance, so for me it would have to be the royal wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William.
What sets you apart from other wedding photographers?
I personally believe that I put my heart and soul into every single wedding that I have the pleasure to be a part of. From the moment of enquiry, right through until the presentation of your album – I’m there every step of the way to guide, support and advise. The service that my couples receive is so important to me and I love that after their wedding days, my couples say what a wonderful, relaxed experienced they had.
What can a couple who book you expect on the day?
On the day of your wedding, myself and my second photographer typically arrive at bridal prep at a similar time to your hair and makeup artists. This enables us to get started on your detail shots, such as your dress, shoes, jewellery, bridesmaids’ attire, florals etc. My second photographer and I work like clockwork throughout your day ensuring every moment is captured: every reaction, every emotion. As part of my package, I also include groom prep coverage so once your hair and makeup is complete, one of us will pop over the capture the images of the groom getting ready and making those final touches. Onto the ceremony! As a photographer, I’m very non-intrusive and I feel this works very well, especially in your ceremony. I make the most of the natural light available to create that gorgeous romantic ambiance. After you say ‘I do’ we give you some time to relax with your guests once arriving at your venue before whisking you away to create those gorgeous intimate, natural couple shots that you will treasure for a lifetime. The following festivities are then captured in a reportage style to ensure your guests are feeling completely relaxed, enabling us to get those natural shots. Your first dance and cutting of the cake will follow to end the evening in all its beautiful glory! I always have sparklers with me at a wedding, so this is the point that I then offer a ‘sparkler send-off’ prior to my service finishing for the evening. This is a great way to end the images in your album and is ultra-romantic and dreamy too!
What is included in your ‘package’?
I believe in simplicity! So I offer one carefully crafted, perfectly put together package for all of my couples. This package includes two photographers, all day coverage bridal prep to first dance, a pre-wedding shoot (to get rid of those wedding day nerves in front of the camera), your images presented on a crystal USB and finally – a beautiful Italian bespoke made album tailored to your specification.
