Rachel Hirst

It’s holiday season here on the blog, and as the editorial team take a short break, we’ll be leaving you with a reduced blogging schedule so that you still get your daily dose of wedding lovely. Usual service will recommence on Monday 9th January 2017 but in the meantime watch out for recaps of some of our favourite Real Weddings from 2016.

Drop in every day for the very prettiest, most unique wedding inspiration and – if you are a Brides Up North bride – to see if your real wedding was one of our top picks.

It might be cold outside but today’s real wedding is bound to make you feel lovely and summery.

Bride and groom Molly and Luke, decided to let their rustic venue do the majority of the talking when it came to creating the right setting for their big day. They did however inject some fabulous pops of colour into the day in the form of seasonal blooms and vibrant paper pompoms. Simple, yet incredible effective.

There’s lots we love about this wedding, including Molly’s gorgeous pale blush dress, the super cheery décor and stunning naked-style cake.

molly says:

We got engaged on 23rd November at home. I turned around to find Luke down on one knee with beautiful ring that he’d designed himself! He totally took me surprise. I had been away with the girls a week before and it turned out that while I was there Luke had been up to visit my parents and ask my dad for permission. This meant so much to me!

We set the date for 4th September, which was perfect for the late summer we had imagined.

Our chosen venue was The Tithe Barn at Browsholme Hall in Clitheroe. We wanted somewhere unique with rustic and relaxed feel to it. The barn was perfect! It was the first venue we visited and we fell in love with it straight away. Rebecca and her team there were wonderful.

We didn’t want to introduce a wedding theme as such because the barn already has its own style. We just wanted to create a fun and relaxed atmosphere and to let the beauty of the barn shine though.  Luke loves superheroes so we did make sure that there were some sneaky super hero references dotted throughout the day, which included Lego superheroes in the buttonholes and superhero table names.

We chose a mixed pallet of colours for the day as we wanted pops of colour everywhere. We drew inspiration from the paper we chose for the invitations – it included muted tones of blush, orange, yellow, green and blue.

In keeping with the scheme I chose a pale blush pink gown which was Sincerity by Justin Alexander. It was A-line with a sweetheart neckline and I added a beautiful capped sleeve jacket over the top to make it unique to me. I bought it from Lulu Brown’s in Whalley- such a beautiful boutique! Kate and Jennie there were absolutely wonderful! I also wore Betty shoes by Charlotte Mills.

On the day of the wedding Nina Rochford MUA took care of my makeup and Claire from P&J Palmer in Whalley, styled my hair. I’d recommend both these ladies to other brides.

Luke’s wedding outfit was a three-piece, grey, tweed suit from Next with a polka dot blush pink tie! I sent him some superman cufflinks and tie pin on the morning of our wedding as a surprise gift.

My lovely bridesmaids wore silver/grey dresses from ASOS, which we customized with grey sashes made by Charlotte from Legends Bridal. They complemented the charcoal suits from M&S that the groomsmen wore perfectly.

The night before the wedding I stayed at the cottage in the grounds of the venue, which meant we just had to make a short stroll to the barn on the day – I still managed to be 20 minutes late though.

Stella Photography captured our day and I would recommend them to everyone! From the start Seb and Zuzi were amazing, constantly in touch and just truly lovely people. On the day, they couldn’t have been more wonderful. The guests loved them as much as we did and we were so glad to have them as part of our day.

The wedding flowers were created by Jane and her team at Flower Design. I carried a bouquet of sunflowers, peonies, sweet peas and lots of other pretty things!

Flower Design dressed all our reception tables too. They used an array of flowers, in various vases, jars and vintage food tins. Further décor included polka dot drapes, chair sashes, twinkle lights and love lights, which were from Creative Cover Hire. As well as making all of the stationery, my wonderful mum also made hundreds of pompoms which we made into garlands and placed on place settings! I also hand-drew chalkboard signs and table numbers which were dotted around the venue.

We decided not to have any table favours. Instead I created a sweet table by collecting lots of cut-glass vases and vessels and stacking them on vintage suit cases, then filling them with yummy treats.

We had a naked style wedding cake, made by Dotties Pantry. It consisted of lemon cake and a Victoria sponge. It was decorated with fresh flowers to match my bouquet. We also had macarons to match the colour of the pompoms, painstakingly made by my lovely Aunty Sadie!

Catering company Twelve took care of the food and drink for us on the day. To start we drank prosecco whilst munching on canapés. For the wedding breakfast we ate a hog roast with lots of different sides followed by Twelve’s fairground attraction dessert! In the evening we ate burgers and chips from Twelve’s burger shack! The food we chose was in keeping with the relaxed vibe of our day.

To provide our entertainment we hired The Hope Street Busking Band, who kept our guests dancing all night long. They were fantastic! We also hired a photo booth from The Mighty Booth, which our guests loved. We still laugh at the pictures now!

Following our wedding I would definitely recommend our venue to anyone looking for a rustic and relaxed setting, which is exclusive to them. The grounds are stunning and the service we received from Rebecca and her team was second to none. Nothing was too much trouble.

Looking back I can honestly say I enjoyed every single moment of our wedding day. I married my best friend and the whole day was so special and magical. We both agreed that seeing all of our loved ones all together, celebrating us was an incredible feeling and one we will never forget.

After the wedding we had a minimoon in Shropshire for a week. We stayed in a gorgeous cottage and we slept and ate a lot! We then headed to Riviera Maya in Mexico in February for our honeymoon. It was amazing – we were well and truly spoilt!

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be just to relax and enjoy everyone who has come to celebrate you, because the day will be over before you know it.
