Today we’re escaping to a wonderfully pretty Grade I listed building in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, reminiscing with Becca and Ryan about their big day back in August – a date chosen with the couple’s lucky number ten in mind.
With no particular theme or overarching colour scheme, it was – quite unusually – the groom’s tweed suit that influenced the overall styling for the day. Cue some rather lovely sunflowers and an all-natural palette – complete with a bark effect wedding cake and eye-catching bunting draped inside their quaint marquee – to complement the yellow hues from Ryan’s dapper attire.
As for the bride – she wanted to go for a style that no one would expect. The result? She swapped the expected mermaid fit for plenty of princess style ruffles – needless to say, we think your Pinterest boards will be seeing some pretty pinning action today!

Proposal
Becca says
: Ryan had taken me to The Pheasant Hotel at Harrome, North Yorkshire, for my birthday weekend. He was supposed to propose near the castle but got too nervous and did it next to the bathroom instead!Setting
We got married on 10th August 2018. We went on our first date on the 10th July, got engaged on the 10th January so we wanted to keep the 10th but in the summer. I have ten diamonds to represent this in my wedding ring.
We tied the knot at Cusworth Hall Park and Museum. We had our ceremony in the grand salon and our reception in a marquee next to Lady Isabella’s garden. We decided on this location as my mum and grandparents used to take me all the time when I was younger.
Theme
We had no special theme but the whole wedding was planned around Ryan’s suit!
We wanted to keep the colour scheme quite light. Ryan picked a tweed suit with a yellow line in it before we had booked anything else, so we took the yellow from the suit and added splashes of sunflowers to the day, mixed with mainly brown and cream.
Dress
I went for a princess style gown with ruffles and a train by Viva Bride, purchased from Wed2b in Leeds. I picked this dress because I knew everyone was expecting me to wear a fitted mermaid style dress, so I wanted to surprise the guests with the complete opposite!
Groomsmen
Ryan wore a brown tweed suit from Marc Darcy, complemented by a dark yellow bow tie from Moss Bros.
The groomsmen wore the same Marc Darcy suit as Ryan.
Bridesmaids
When buying my dress, I also saw the dresses I wanted for my bridesmaids but there were actually discontinued. After posting online about how gutted I was, a Facebook friend saw the dresses I wanted in the size I needed being sold on a bride group that another bride was selling due to changing her colour scheme.
As a special touch we added feathers to the flowers and the groom and his party also had feather buttonholes.
Beauty
For makeup I used Chloe Louise make-up artist. Chloe Davidson is a school friend who works as a fully qualified MUA. For my hair I used Jodie’s pin ups. I worked with Jodie Kelly while she was getting set up, I have very long hair and she is the only hairdresser that seems to be able to keep my hair up all day!
Transport
We hired a campervan named Dylan from Liberty Campers VW wedding and holiday hire based in North of Leeds.
Photography
Hayley Baxter captured our day and we would 100% recommend her! I hate having my picture taken but Hayley made it all feel so natural, most of the time I couldn’t even tell she was taking pictures. I love all of our photos, I still don’t have any printed off because I cannot pick any!
Videography
We used Precious Memories Wedding Videos and we would recommend them too – everyone should book a videographer!
Styling
I had sunflowers, white gerbera and gypsophila in my bouquet provided by Lockwoods in Doncaster, and these flowers were also use for the table centrepieces.
The chairs were dressed by All Occasions venue stylists and the marquee was dressed by AB Marquees. All of the table decorations were made by me, including the table plan and garland for the ceremony.
As favours, I made sweet bags and attached the name places.
Cake
We picked a small wedding cake with a bark effect made by Caroline Crumb Cakes.
Dining
We had canapés after the ceremony and our main meal consisted of sweet potato and butternut squash soup, a choice of lamp or salmon for main and then sticky toffee pudding. We also had street food with kebabs and pizza on the night.
Entertainment
We booked a DJ, and as it was a summer wedding we didn’t feel like anything else was needed.

The whole day was one big highlight, although a particularly memorable part was when the best man sang his speech!
Honeymoon
We went to Santorini for our honeymoon. We visited the volcanoes and did an island tour to see the famous blue domes. We stopped in the village of Kamira which was full of restaurants and shops.
Advice
My top tip for other Brides Up North would be: do what you want to do! Ignore other influences and make sure you make it what you want to be. You only get to do it once so have no regrets!
