A cold February afternoon at Marsden Rock in South Shields provides the atmospheric backdrop to today’s captivating wedding shoot, complete with dramatic cliff edges, rocky terrain and a meandering shoreline.
Emma from planning and design business Emma Jordan Weddings was the creative force behind this styled bridal shoot, keen to get her own work – and that of the suppliers involved – truly on the wedding map!
The shoot showcased two key trends handpicked by Emma – a simple daytime look and then for the evening – an alluring combination of shimmer and shine. Texture played a key role in bringing both of these styles to life, cue lots of gorgeous wild florals and foliage in everything from the bridal bouquet to the table décor. Metallic-style balloons, velvet table runners and crystal glassware accentuate this even further, creating something of an elegant and understated look.

Emma says
: The shoot was a chance to meet other creatives in the wedding industry and use it as a platform to showcase all of our work. We were all fairly new to doing a styled shoot so it was a great way for us to showcase what we can do! As the planner and designer, I created the brief and the rest of the guys followed.For me, as a planner, it was a great way for me to get some of my own work on the map for my portfolio too.
Theme
The shoot was based on some current trends for 2019. I went down the ‘simplicity’ look for the day and more of a ‘shimmer/shine’ look for the evening. I really wanted to showcase two different styles with our model showcasing a quirkier look for the reception.
I also got the team to focus on textures within the two different looks, as this is something I’m really big on. So we went for pampas grass in our bouquet, created by Katie at Primrose and Promises, and velvet for our table display.
Location
We chose Marsden Rock in South Shields as our main shoot location, purely because I had found some images that I fell in love with that had a rocky backdrop. It was no doubt the textures of the rocks that drew me in – it just so happens one of our team on board had been dying to shoot at Marsden Rock for a while. So it was a no brainier. We were blessed with beautiful weather on a cold February afternoon!
Styling
For the details we had a few design companies on board who were happy for me to rummage around their showroom and brochures to see what fit the bill. This included furniture from Crosby Hire, balloons from Imaginarium Balloons, decorations from Sprig and Thistle and stationery from Helen Scott. We also had a gorgeous cake from Cake by Chloe.
I went for beautiful crystal glassware and beaded charger plates to work as part of my textures. I bought some velvet material myself for the table runner. We used little bits of gypsophila as a finishing touch to the table and bride’s hair.
Beauty
We changed the hair, styled by Jess and May at Love is in the Hair and makeup, by Lucy Maria – over the day to suit either the ‘simplicity’ or ‘shimmery’ look alongside the bride’s top half of her attire to really transform her outfit into the evening reception look.
Results
The day overall was super rewarding and chilled. It was great to meet the faces behind the Instagram accounts and to feel the sense of achievement with them all when looking through the images.
For most of us it was our first shoot, so we were super pleased with how the photos turned out and how the brief was met. We just can’t wait to do our next one together.
