It’s a double congratulations to today’s couple who tied the knot back in March 2018 and are now awaiting the arrival of their baby girl! And their wedding really is a beauty!
Just picture the scene; suspended floral displays, warm candlelight and heaps of pale, pretty pinks paired with rich berry tones.
The happy couple fell in love with the stunning and intimate Ashfield House at first sight and the rest, as they say, is history! Scottish bride, Emma, made sure to incorporate some of the traditional flowers of her homeland in today’s featured wedding, with touches of heather, thistle and deep plum hues juxtaposing perfectly with the soft blush tones of the roses.
Keeping things elegant, Emma and Rob opted to introduce a bit of sparkle to their big day, while the classic colour scheme and the tweed element of the groom’s suit makes sure that the overall look of the day is timeless.
As for the bride, Emma looks truly exquisite in a Morilee crystal beaded mermaid gown paired with a romantic cathedral length veil.

Proposal
Emma says
: We got engaged on holiday in Turkey in July 2016. Rob bought and chose the ring whilst in Turkey and went to collect it with my dad. He bought a watch at the same time and when they returned from the jewellers Rob showed me his new watch, with the ring tucked in the wristband!Setting
We got married on 10th March 2018, at Ashfield House, in Standish, where we had both the ceremony and reception. We had attended a wedding fair there and fell in love instantly. The venue is beautiful and intimate, and we wanted somewhere that would be exclusively ours for the day. It also allowed guests coming from out of town to stay over at the venue. I am from Scotland and so all of my family were travelling quite a way to the wedding. We chose to have the ceremony and reception at the same venue as it allows guests to relax from the start without having to change location over the course of the day.
Theme
We wanted an elegant feel with a touch of sparkle. We chose blush pink and plum as the colour scheme for the wedding as we think it will remain timeless when we’re looking back on the day in years to come.
Dress
I wore a crystal beaded mermaid gown by Morilee by Madeline Gardner which I bought from Bijoux Bridal Boutique in Hamilton, Scotland. I chose this gown as I wanted something fitted and loved the sparkle! It was actually the very first dress I tried on. I wore a chapel length veil by Ronald Joyce with beading around the bottom.
Groomsmen
Rob wore a navy blue suit from Marks & Spencer, a tweed waistcoat by Mark Darcy and tan leather shoes were by Kurt Geiger. The groomsmen wore matching suits from M&S.
Bridesmaids
The bridesmaids wore a blush pink dress with a bit of sparkle, with a cowl neck and slight train from Debenhams. The flower girls wore grey dresses.
Beauty
The bridal party’s hair and makeup was done by Laura Mayers and the Bridal Make Up Team.
Photographer
Our photographer was Teresa C Photography and we would highly recommend her! Teresa is lovely and made us feel very comfortable from our pre-wedding shoot and on our actual wedding day. Rob and I were both apprehensive about having to pose for pictures but Teresa captured lots of natural shots which we loved and we struggled to narrow down our favourites for our album!
Styling
The flowers for the day were provided by Sarah at The Rose Boutique.
My bouquet was predominantly blush pink and berry tones to complement the colour scheme. I wanted to incorporate some kind of Scottish element into the flowers and so we added some thistles and heather amongst the other flowers and foliage used. The bridesmaids and flower girls carried smaller blush pink bouquets and the page boy had a sheriff badge buttonhole.
The decoration of the venue was also by Sarah who styled and dressed the venue with flowers and candles. We opted for a suspended floral design above the ceremony table and then above the top table at the wedding reception. Sarah and her team did a fantastic job and we absolutely loved how the ceremony room and reception looked and the decoration really gave it the wow factor we had hoped for.
We also used a light up dancefloor as we knew that at the time of year, it would be dark early. It looked really beautiful in the breakfast room with all the candles lit.
Cake
We chose a three-tiered square cake, in the colours of the wedding, blush pink and silver. We also incorporated our two dogs, Oscar and Indie, into the bottom tier of the cake as if they were eating it. The cake was made by Cakes by Steph Bolton.
Dining
For starters we served duck and chicken liver parfait with orange butter, burnt onion ketchup and sourdough toasts or tian of melon, seasonal berries with champagne bellini sorbet. The mains were either braised feather blade of beef, vichy carrots, horseradish mash with rich roast jus or pan fried marinated fillet of loch duart salmon, kale lobster tail and brandy cream, parsley crushed potatoes.
The dessert was a choice of a kilner jar chocolate mousse, homemade honeycomb tuille biscotti, raspberry flavours or the classic sticky toffee pudding, butterscotch sauce, vanilla ice cream, and salted popcorn sprinkles.
Entertainment
We chose a harpist, Sarah Davies, for the ceremony and during the wedding breakfast. We loved the traditional feel this brought to the ceremony and Sarah also played chart songs after the ceremony which was perfect.
We also used DFC Entertainment and we had a host throughout the day as well as a DJ at night. Danny was our host for the day, and he ensured the day ran smoothly. There were no long periods of time with our guests ‘waiting about’. Danny had us play games such as Mr and Mrs and read out advice cards from our guests which was hilarious and really got everyone involved.
Special touches
We had our dog walker bring our two furry family members, cockapoos Oscar and Indie, to be a part of our photographs. Trying to get them to sit still for the photos was challenging but worth it in the end as Teresa managed to get some great shots of us all together.
Rob’s mum also paid for some dance lessons for us as we were pretty nervous about getting up in front of everyone and so we had a choreographed dance for our first dance which was pretty special for us.

We would highly recommend Ashfield House to other couples. The venue is beautiful and the perfect size and setting for an intimate wedding. The team at Ashfield House are lovely and made sure the day ran smoothly. No request was too much and the day can be tailored to you both as a couple. The guest rooms are beautiful, and we had lovely comments from our guests about the venue and staff.
Best bit
My favourite part of the day was sitting down to the wedding breakfast as the nerves of the morning had gone and we could both enjoy celebrating together with all of our family and friends.
Rob’s favourite part of the day was me walking down the aisle to Canon in D, which is the song that he had chosen.
Honeymoon
We went to Las Vegas and then Cancun, Mexico. Rob had previously visited Las Vegas and I had always wanted to go so we chose to fly there for a few days, to see the sights and enjoy the hustle and bustle, before the relaxing part of the honeymoon in Mexico. We stayed in a beautiful resort in Cancun and it was lovely to spend time relaxing together as Mr and Mrs after all the wedding planning.
Advice
My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to try to really savour every moment as the day is over in a flash! The next day I woke up and wanted to do it all over again.
Also, during the planning, I found the ‘Inspire’ section of Brides Up North useful as both the styled shoots and real weddings were a great way to get ideas on different elements for the wedding.
