Natural love. A sustainable styled shoot at Vallum Farm

Wedding trends come and go, but there’s a new wave of brides and grooms-to-be that we think will be here to stay… say hello to the eco-conscious couple who want to bring to life their picture perfect wedding day, but show some love to planet too.

That’s the focus for today’s beautiful styled shoot set in the captivating surroundings of Vallum Farm, close to Hadrian’s Wall. Led by wedding planner and stylist Emma Jordan, of Emma Jordan Weddings, the shoot brought together lots of talented northern creatives, all keen to show engaged couples that eco-friendly doesn’t mean compromising on your wedding day style.

There are plenty of gorgeous ideas to pore over, with the team creating two key ‘looks’ on the day. Beautiful flowers (specially foraged nearby) combine with tipis, recycled glass and twigs, not to mention beautiful stationery – also made from recycled materials – to create a pared back, rustic style for the tablescapes and ceremony backdrop.

It’s not all about the Instagram-worthy styling though – the shoot also profiles locally sourced produce too, including honey, beer and freshly picked fruit. Simply delish – and more importantly, low on those carbon footprints.

As for the wedding day attire – vintage meets boho chic, for an outdoors vibe that’s truly at one with the natural setting. And yes, there’s a flower crown and one of these ‘I’ve just picked a selection of wildflowers straight from the field’ style bouquets to covet! Want more eco-friendly ideas for your big day? Emma says

: The inspiration behind the shoot was to create two eco-friendly wedding styles. We wanted to demonstrate how this theme can be incorporated into your wedding day, from super eco-friendly to a more modern chic look.

Eco-friendly weddings are becoming increasingly popular due to people becoming more conscious of single use plastics and wanting to change their ways. So, the shoot meant something to us all, we carried out the day being as eco-conscious as possible and even foraged for our flowers on the day.


We chose Vallum Farm as the location for the shoot due to the beautiful greenery they have just off site, which was perfect for capturing our ethos. There were beautiful fields and flowers nearby which we took full advantage of too.

Theme & styling

For our first eco theme, we used foraged florals and greenery and hand dyed linen, with styling from the team at Dancing Dahlia Florals, to create a beautiful grazing table with local honey, beers and recycled glass for the décor.

For our second theme, we focused on the colour aubergine whilst building up the décor with foraged greenery and twigs and recycled paper for the stationery, supplied by Helen Scott Design.

The cake, crafted by Sadie May Cakes, was topped with beautiful glazed cherries and locally grown fruits too.

Birdcages and Dragonflies and The Artisan Wedding House helped bring the styling elements together for both themes.


We chose a gorgeous gown from Si Bridal, with a detailed high neck and floaty long sleeves – it fitted with our modern eco vibe perfectly. The ensemble was beautifully complemented by earrings from Earth Links Jewellery and statement headwear from Wild With Love Flowers.

The grooms’ suits were supplied from Mr Munro Menswear as they offered a wide range of colours which fitted with our theme.


Lucy from Art by Lucy Maria did a great job with our bride’s hair and make-up. We went for flirty pink, which tied in with the locally picked pink peonies.

The team from Park Grange Advanced Skin Clinic (who you can follow as Face.Body.Mind on Instagram) also helped with the grooming for our male models.


The shoot went fantastically well! Having a real couple to shoot with, who were in fact getting married just two weeks later, really brought a loving vibe to the whole day. Especially that confetti shot (with earth friendly confetti from Adam Apple Confetti) – it made all of our hearts full! A special mention also goes to Lisa Wilson, our celebrant on the day.
