If you are soon to embark on the bridesmaid dress search, then today’s post could not be better timed as we introduce our new Sponsor Motee Maids to the blog – a stunning collection of customisable dress designs that puts brides-to-be in the styling seat.
With individuality at its heart, Motee Maids was launched by British designer Rosanna Garden in 2017 to bring an exciting bridesmaid concept to independent bridal boutiques. Starting with the Original Collection and extending to the Sequin Sash and Fully Beaded Collections, there are various bodice and skirt combinations to choose from to create the perfect silhouette, plus a gorgeous choice of colours and detailing options to create the dreamiest gowns for style-conscious maids.
The varying options enable brides to dress their leading ladies in designs to suit differing personal preferences while still appearing as a collective clique and fitting in with the overall big day vision. Absolute genius, we think you will agree!
So, let’s talk direct to the designer about how her uber cool concept is pioneering bridal parties’ attire choices, while revealing some of the many styling possibilities that await. And if these gorgeous gowns have you falling head over heels then clear your diary on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th October when West Yorkshire stockist, the wonderful Bijou Bridal, Holmfirth, will be hosting a Motee Maids Trunk Show with an extended collection of the designs available in the boutique for bridal parties to try. Booking is essential!
Where did the idea of Motee Maids come from?
Rosanna says
: Whilst working as an occasion and bridal buyer, I was fortunate to visit India, where I fell in love with skilled artisan beading, embellishments and colour. I decided to set up Motee Maids and base my first ranges on my love of these three elements. I didn’t want to just create a hand full of dresses though, I wanted to create a concept that gives brides the ability to ensure her bridesmaid dresses are perfect for each individual, whilst all still looking amazing as a group. Can you tell us more about the concept of the gowns?
Motee Maids was launched with the aim of giving brides a more creative input when it comes to finding the perfect dresses for their bridesmaids. As such, we have thousands of options which can be created – almost like a pretty beaded pick ’n’ mix – by choosing from our different bodice and skirt shapes to create a silhouette that will flatter each individual bridesmaid. Every gown can then be customised further by choosing from our unique colours and delicate pearl hand-embellishments.
What are the main elements you consider when putting a collection together?
Fit and comfort are so important, and the necklines have been created to ensure there is something to flatter all. Meanwhile, the embellishment motifs have been designed to complement bridal gowns beautifully.
Why do you believe it’s important to pick gowns to suit individuals rather than taking a one-style-suits-all approach?
I believe in picking dresses that make your bridesmaids feel as happy and confident on your big day as you do. When all bridesmaids have similar figures, wearing all the same dresses can look amazing but often when bridesmaids vary, even the most body confident will compare themselves to others and may feel self-conscious so having a style that each bridesmaid loves and looks amazing in is key.
What personal features would you advise a bride to take into account when selecting outfits for her bridesmaids?
We offer different necklines and there is always one that will work on your bridesmaids. Listen to what the bridesmaids would like as they will usually know what suits their figure best and what they will feel comfortable in. Of course, it is your day, and ultimately your decision, but trying to cater to your maids’ needs will help them feel super special.
And how can bridesmaids each have a dress to suit them but still look like a collective group?
The mix match look can still appear coordinated by picking the same colour and beading and mixing up the necklines to suit each girl. The way some of our brides decide is to pick the colour and embellishment then let each bridesmaid pick the style themselves. Another way is to have each bridesmaid in the same style but let them choose a different embellishment.
You’ve recently extended your collections with a number of new designs – can you tell us a little about these?
Yes. We’ve introduced a number of new silhouettes, colours and detailing elements, plus – for the first time – junior sizes ranging from age ten to 16.
The Motee Original Collection has been updated with two new bodices: the Cara Cowl and Olga Halter, while the Sequin Sash Collection has also been enhanced with two new silhouettes: the Heather Halter and Calla Cowl Halter.
Colour-wise, the existing palette has been extended across all styles to include an intense Hunter Green hue as well as two new mixed encrusted shades.
Finally, something brand new for Motee Maids this year is the launch of delicate embroidered detailing.
Motee Maids are stocked by independent bridal boutiques where bridal parties can book an appointment to try on dresses guided by a professional stylist. How does this experience assist groups in their dress search?
The boutiques are amazing and create such a fun and memorable day for brides and their maids. They can advise on sizes for bridesmaids who cannot make the appointment by working from their measurements.
Motee offer sizes 6 to 28 and as we make each dress to order especially for each of your bridesmaids, there is no fear of a size or style selling out. It really takes the stress away of shopping for multiple of people.
What is your golden piece of advice for brides when picking dresses for their bridesmaids?
Pick a style your bridesmaids feel comfortable and happy in; bridesmaids want to feel their absolute best on the day too.
