Desert Rose. A Styled Bridal Shoot at Almscliffe Valley

Alexis Forsyth

The Nevada Desert lies at the heart of today’s styled bridal shoot, bringing American boho chic to the rural setting of Almscliffe Valley in the Yorkshire countryside.

Led by Emily from personalised wedding planning, styling and design business Emily K Weddings, the shoot is a light, bright and thoroughly elegant affair featuring glorious tipis and even a caravan style bar named Geneva. A pampas grass chandelier, macramé, bunting and candles combine to create a rustic backdrop that’s sure to have the outdoorsy brides among you pinning to your heart’s content.

A lace gown and statement headwear with soft textured hair and a muted makeup palette complete the boho look, beautifully complimented by accents of soft pinks, burnt oranges and corals within the bride’s wild and wonderful floral bouquet. Desert-inspired styling at its finest.

Inspiration

Emily says:

We’ve all been swooning over the landscapes of the Nevada Desert with weddings across the pond flashing up on our Instagram feeds. The colours, the textures and the uber chic boho style are moving away from the welly and log slice look and, instead, embracing wild, elegant and organic trends.

We wanted to recreate this look in the heart of Yorkshire to show couples the potential of styling a blank space tipi from Bar Events and creating breathtaking installations to add impact and interest. Of course, there was a caravan bar too, cutely named Geneva courtesy of Applewood Weddings. All this was captured by the talented Weddings By Nicola. Her laidback, non-pose style of wedding photography was perfect for the shoot!

Location

Almscliffe Valley is a woodland venue with a stunning dramatic landscape – it’s a perfect rural backdrop. The tipis sat nestled in the trees, overlooking the striking Almscliffe Crag.

Styling

A stunning pampas grass chandelier from Forge Events hung in the centre of the tipi to create that boho vibe instantly – a feature piece with mixed metallic accents to add bit of luxe glamour.

The entrance was decorated with more boho details from Emily K Weddings, including macrame, vintage leather poufs, baskets and an elegant welcome sign. A combination of elegant, rustic and boho.

Unfortunately, Yorkshire doesn’t have the same weather as Nevada but a risky outdoor ceremony is still a hopeful must. A simple set up of wooden benches creates a casual feel to the ceremony, relaxed to welcome guests. The ceremony frame overlooking the lake was decorated with macrame, flowing fabric and more beautiful florals by Forge Events. As the elements caught the fabric it billowed and created a romantic little swish.

The stationery from Raspberry Toast was simple and elegant, featuring a romantic yet modern calligraphy font with a monochrome finish. The cake mirrored the rustic texture of the florals and macrame details, beautifully finished by The Little Cake Cottage.

The other tipi structures were decorated with handmade, bespoke bunting from Bewleys Bunting, adding another nod to the vintage look and showcasing how you can incorporate personalised decor within your wedding venue.

The rustic trestle tables as well as the top table were designed by Emily K Weddings to be elegant, elevating the rustic look, complemented by pretty, delicate floral clusters by Forge Events, along with lux brass and gold details.

Additional texture in the fabric table runners and knotted napkins softened the look and mirrored the ceremony decor. The candles at varying heights created soft glows throughout. As the celebrations roll into the evening it’s amazing how the lighting and ambience changes inside the tipis.

The laidback vibe oozed from Geneva, the caravan bar which is a fab alternative wedding bar offering bespoke, artisanal cocktails.

Attire

The lace dress from Little Pearl Bridal added a vintage twist. Teamed with a bouquet of soft pinks, burnt oranges and corals – the bridal look was complete.

Beauty

We went for an elegant boho look with relaxed hair and make up by Bespoke Bridal Beauty. To add a tonal colour to complement the bouquet – we used a hat as a strong, unique accessory and statement piece. This really added to the strong boho look.

Results

We created a shoot that, we hope, will inspire brides to create a bold boho vibe but in a modern elevated way to achieve an elegant, pretty look for an outdoor tipi wedding.
