Autumn Magic. A Rustic Wedding Styled Shoot at Townhead Estate

Sarah Symonds

Extreme autumn harvest vibes today with this rustic wedding styled shoot in the lakeside woods on the banks of Windermere, courtesy of Clare Gelderd Photography and her fellow wedding suppliers.

Mystical and misty with pumpkins and gourds galore, and toasty auburn, bronze tones to warm the cockles. Let your imagination run wild, across the acres and acres of idyllic land and woods. Picture your closest family and friends descending on this utterly charming location, witnessing you exchange promises and then celebrating into the night.

The rustic towering cake is incredible, decorated with natural bits and bobs that look right at home in the outdoor, lakeside venue, while the harpist adds an ethereal quality to the already dreamy setup. We’re seeing lots of navy tweed, burnt oranges, mauve and plum, dried grasses, and hands (both big and little!) cupping cosy mugs of soup – a wedding like this can warm hearts and tummies alike. We reckon this is one shoot you won’t want to miss – purely for the fact that a real live bull in a wedding setup is not something you see every day! We’re handing over to Clare for the insider details…

CONCEPT

Clare says: Due to Covid19 restrictions the simple inspiration was to collaborate with a selection of local suppliers in the wedding industry to work at Town Head Estate, a wedding venue currently undergoing huge refurbishment ready for a Spring 2021 opening! As a photographer, I wanted to show the great outdoors and that small intimate weddings (even with restrictions) can be stunning, mystical, autumnal and whimsical.

LOCATION

The location for the shoot was vital to achieve the mystical atmosphere. Town Head Estate has 110 acres and some stunning woodland. Also the accessibility for the carriage and bull was essential. Not only that, the venue is only a stone’s throw away from all my suppliers. When a venue offers acres of private ancient parkland upon the unspoilt shores of Lake Windermere, and the autumnal leaves start to fall, embracing an atmospheric wedding is essential!

STYLING

Imagine, the sharp crunch of crisp burnt leaves under your feet as the calming waves lap upon the shore; the mist drifts, only amplifying beauty of the view. Autumnal weddings, of any size, spark opportunity for warmth, mood and texture. There is something refreshing about being at one with the surroundings during a spectacular seasonal wedding. And it goes without saying, it couldn’t be completed without all of the amazing suppliers such as Free Range Floristry, Lucie’s Cake Co and Emma Jane Events.

ATTIRE

Clothing was supplied by Family Affair, a bridal retailer and groom’s room based in Kendal and accessories were by Silver Lake Jewellery

BEAUTY

The beauty look was both stylish yet whimsical. The bride’s hairstyle enhanced the piece created by Free Range Floristry beautifully.

RESULTS

Shoot day was just perfect; all hands on deck to ensure it all came together, the sun came out and everything fell into place. The bull was on his best behaviour and the children were amazing to work with. The food supplied by The Olde Mill, warmed everyone’s tummy at the perfect time.

As a Lake District wedding photographer I love to be unique and push the boundaries, ensuring every supplier’s work sits together beautifully to achieve the vision I have in mind. My ultimate goal whenever I photograph is to enhance all the creative suppliers’ work to ensure they get the best results possible.
