Orange Bitters. An Elegant Wedding Styled Shoot at White Syke Fields

Alexis Forsyth

An eye-poppingly bright orange palette blazes a trail of inspiration in today’s fabulously pretty styled shoot, set against the rustic backdrop of White Syke Fields, close to the Yorkshire Wolds.

Inspired by the classic Jo Malone scent ‘orange bitters’ – this is a styled shoot that doesn’t hold back, combining some rather fetching tablescapes and decorative styling touches, not to mention a splash or two of colourful accessories to the elegant yet fashion-forward attire.

We’re all about supporting local suppliers here at Brides Up North, and what we love about this shoot is how it perfectly showcases a bunch of talented northern businesses (some of whom are part of our UNVEILED Network!), while also providing plenty of inspo on how to blend your favourite big brands into your special day, too.

Here’s photographer Nisha to tell us more about her vision for the shoot, the team’s love for colour, and how they executed this vivaciously bright theme and concept.

Inspiration

Nisha says: Our intimate scented wedding shoot was inspired by the Jo Malone scent ‘orange bitters’ and a desire to showcase how beautiful, unique and intimate weddings can be. We wanted to show how couples can combine luxury touches with their favourite pieces and unique styles all in one day.

We felt that, in the current climate, it was important to showcase the different kinds of beauty you can find in weddings, and help inspire brides and grooms-to-be. Having local suppliers alongside international brands was part of our ‘unique to you’ idea for the shoot.

Location

I was honoured to be invited to a networking event at White Syke Fields when the first barn opened and I fell in love. White Syke Fields is a beautiful wedding venue thanks to its two contrasting barns (an intimate white barn and a red brick open barn) and stunning grounds, which include a boat on the lake and woodland. It’s been a goal of mine to shoot here since first seeing it and, luckily, once the restrictions were lifted, the stars aligned with the dates we could do and Charlotte, from the venue, was on board after seeing the themes.

Styling

With our orange bitters scent as the base, I really wanted visual representation for the scent whilst keeping to a classic black and white theme, which UNVEILED Network Member Stories Of Events took absolute care of, with plenty of orange touches and a gorgeous tablescape.

In keeping with this classic look, Lottie Roberts Flowers chose beautiful lilies and hydrangeas with lots of foliage, and Suzanne Oddy Design created a minimalist stationery suite.

Sweet Chic creates the most beautiful cake designs and when she told me that the cake and treats incorporated all the colours from our theme – I was over the moon! She managed to create it all with a hand injury, too. She really captured the shoot’s elegance and quirkiness in one design and it looked incredible. Jo Malone favours perfectly finished off the tablescape.

Attire

UNVEILED Network Member Perfect Fit Bridal Couture is one of my favourite local designers – there’s always something new or different in her designs which take the dress to another level.

We had a satin and lace gown with a high neck and a detachable overskirt for our first model, Lanina, which was teamed with orange bow court shoes from JJ’s House and hair jewels from Vintage Adornments.

Our second model, Meg, wore a baroque jacket from BoohooMan with her own shoes and pencil skirt for a feminine twist. We paired Meg’s outfit with a plain white shirt and orange bow tie/pocket square from Ties R Us.

Both ladies wore diamonds and rings from Pugata Jewellery in white and yellow to complement the theme.

UNVEILED Network member My Billet Doux added final touches with a complementing ring cushion complete with ribbon, matching one of Jo Malone’s early looks, to complete the design.

Beauty

Lu Thorton of Luisa Loves Makeup was our professional make-up artist for both Meg and Lanina, and she also created Lanina’s pretty hairstyle. Romantic was the only direction we could go for this look, and what she created was stunning. This look incorporated a touch of colour too, making it perfect for the bride who wants something a little extra, without going too bold.

Results

Our aim for the day was simply to create a beautiful, intimate theme and I’m so glad we did! Despite traffic delays, rain, last minute reshuffles and restrictions – we managed to create a unique, luxury piece of heaven just outside of York and we did it safely. Penelope Jayne (celebrant) and Rebecca Barnes (harpist) completed our line-up for the shoot, and would be an incredible addition to anyone’s special day.
