I bet there were a few pie and ale picnics around my way this Jubilee holiday! And wasn’t it a great one?
.
It’s back to business here on the wedding blog (although I never actually went away – scroll down for a full schedule of seriously fabulous Jubilee weekend content) with this proper Yorkshire engagement celebration sent to me by Anna Louise Crossley Photography and Brides Up North reader Kat.

Kat says: We got engaged in a little bar in the Bastille area of Paris in January 2011. Richard had taken me for a weekend away for my 30th Birthday. He’d had the ring since November but was waiting for the right moment.

We are having our ceremony at the Hyde Park Picture House (an Edwardian Cinema in Leeds) with the reception at St Chad’s Parish Centre in Headingley.

We met through a group of friends back in our home towns in Lancashire but then Richard ended up living just round the corner from me in Leeds and the rest is history!

We went out to a lot of clubs and bars in the first few weeks of getting together but our first ‘date’ was to see Legally Blonde at the cinema. I was smitten from the start but Richard played it a bit cooler…

I knew he was the one for me when I saw how creative and interested in life he was and how much he cared for his family. Before we got together we went to Alton Towers with a group of friends but Richard was too scared to go on the rollercoasters. He spent all day winning teddies on the grabbing machines. When he was dividing up his spoils at the end of the day and deciding which of his nearest and dearest were getting which plush toy I knew he was the man for me.

We have a mutual love of food and culture and a shared smutty sense of humour. We both have separate interests and are really independent but both so interested in each other and consult each other on everything we do.

We have no huge aspirations for married life. We have a solid and fun relationship so more of the same will be just fine. We’re looking forward to celebrating our love with a big gang of family and friends though!

The engagement shoot was suggested by our photographer. We both hate having our photos taken so it was a chance to spend some time with Anna and get used to the lens. We enjoyed it much more than we thought we would.

I’m a fan of Brides Up North because I love looking at other people’s photos and can’t wait to come back to share our wedding photographs here!

Congratulations Kat & Richard!
