I’m putting this feature together late on Mothering Sunday after a blissful day full of cuddles, friends, family, flowers, roast dinners and blackberry crumble. Baby in bed and fire on, I’m curled up in a snug corner at my own Mum’s house with my laptop, and getting ready for the week ahead.
Sunday nights are usually reserved for a steaming bath and a good book, but busy schedules always call for a bit of a catch up and putting today’s post together has been just lovely. These beautiful, creative images sent to me by friend of the wedding blog Abi from Wooden Hill Images are more like editorial art than your typical styled bridal shoot, and curating this selection has been like stepping into the pages of a Bronte favourite.

Abi says: Since much of my work draws inspiration from literature, I decided for my annual bridal inspiration shoot to choose one of my favourite books, Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights, a classic love story.
The aim was to inspire a bride to expand their ideas and be creative. I wanted to create a shoot that told a story that would do this and allow a viewer lose themselves in another world for a time, drawing loosely from the book to capture the essence of the character of Cathy and portray the eerie and yet quintessentially beautiful atmosphere.
I initially approached Jane from Wedding and Events Floral Design who immediately understood and loved the idea. Not long after Bex Brides, Love Hair and Beauty Boutique and MacVean Videography came on board and through the means of a highly useful Pinterest board everyone was able to gather exactly what the feel of the shoot would be…

The shoot was going to take place on a misty, atmospheric sunrise in the heart of the Yorkshire Moors but as the day approached we realised we had chosen the sunniest day of the year so far! So we abandoned until sunset, meaning there was no hurry with the hair and makeup – and we all got a lie in!

Love Hair & Beauty fulfilled the brief perfectly. Makeup for an English beauty with a beautiful weathered look, rosy cheeks and tumbling locks and unkempt styling. Lindsey our model isn’t a professional model, as I like to ask ‘real women’ to model where I can and as soon as I saw her I knew she had exactly the look that we were after.
The outfit was actually a few different looks, Victoriana blouses, a hessian belt with a vintage cameo and the bespoke skirt which I made with a thousand pins, metres of different muslins and nets and Jane kindly stitched was testament that sometimes you can create something totally unique yet beautiful. The cape, again from Bex Brides brought the outfit alive, and I’m definitely hoping to see more brides with cloaks and capes!
For the brides out there reading this – a bride doesn’t always HAVE to wear a white dress! Look to the past, draw influence from things that mean something to you, be individual.
