Inspired by nature and the beautiful transitioning of the seasons from summer through to autumn – this glorious styled shoot is simply everything when it comes to showcasing the beauty of a barn wedding.
Taking place at the fabulous White Syke Fields in North Yorkshire, the venue’s stylish Piggery barn – one of three spaces onsite that’s chock full of personality – combines white washed bricks and wooden beams for all-out rustic, blank canvas vibes.
Focusing on florals and the romance of candlelight, the team behind the shoot really knew how to bring this desirable space to life. Plenty of texture – think a dreamy mix of fresh and dried flowers and foliage; flawlessly blend with accents of gold from cute terrariums and elegant candlesticks.
Wearing a gorgeous blush underlay Stella York gown, the model even sports a leather jacket; proof that a barn bride can teeter towards something edgier than the predictable whimsical, boho look. Here’s Laura of Wellies and Wifi and Nicola from Dittany Entwined to tell us more…

: The Piggery barn at White Syke Fields captures the light in all seasons. The rich and golden light during the transition from summer to autumn was just perfect.With its white walls, stonewashed floors and oak beams, the Piggery provided a beautiful blank canvas. Seating up to 100 guests, the barn nurtures a cosy intimate feel. The focus for this shoot was on large floral arrangements and candlelight.
The shoot was directed by both of us. We had some really beautiful autumnal floral ideas and wanted a bright open space to showcase these – the Piggery at White Sykes fitted this perfectly, especially with the surrounding woodlands – and different elements of this natural environment were used in the florals.
Inspiration
Inspired by nature, texture and wedding couples themselves, the imaginative arrangements are a representation of the newlyweds, which allows wedding guests to experience their day in their way.
The change in season was the inspiration – autumn is the perfect time of year to get married if you love candlelight, with the florals we wanted to create a soft romantic ceremony space, with the couple surrounded by large luxurious arrangements and opulent candlelight.
Styling
Styling touches were crafted by Steph and Adam from the Rustic Rose Company. The large wreath and light box arrangement really add to the wow factor and give some scale to the space and light in the barn.
A combination of fresh and dried flowers gave each arrangement a new level of texture, which is the most important thing visually. The texture of the flowers and foliage, as well as their colour and placement, is used to create depth and highlight certain aspects.
The bridal bouquets were largely made using dried products and feathers giving the bride a modern, quirky look with a nod to the countryside surroundings.
The tablescape is a simple yet luxurious look that oozes romance, encompassing the cosy intimate feelings of the space.
Styled with delicate, gold glass terrariums and elegant gold candlesticks – surrounded by large full floral arrangements to either side and above the table – helped to draw the eye around the room.
The chiffon placed on the chairs and table runner adds softness to finish the look. The candles and light box provide the most gorgeous romantic light. Overall this was the perfect autumnal, romantic shoot seamlessly mixing luxury with simplicity.
Attire
The dress featured in this shoot, supplied by Reloved Wedding Boutique, is a Stella York (ex sample) gown. A really popular piece – the gown features a blush underlay which is flattering on most skin tones. With delicate, detailed beading, the back of the gown steals the limelight complimented by a breathtaking train.
We chose to feature this highly feminine gown to emphasise how you can be delicate and feminine in any venue, whether that be a barn or a castle. We think it works perfectly with the bride’s style and the overall styling of the shoot. We teamed the dress in some shots with a leather jacket to give it a quirky edge.
Beauty
The hair and make up were really natural to fit with the surroundings – the look would suit whimsical brides that prefer to make a statement with their dress and florals.
Results
The shoot went really well on the day and with a small team it worked really well, the florals complemented the space perfectly.
