Enjoy the extra hour in bed?  I certainly did! Smile

.

So, another week jam packed with wedding blog gorgeousness draws to a close.  If you are new reader after meeting me this weekend at The UK Wedding Shows Manchester – welcome!  You can find out more about me and what this wedding blog is all about here, drool over some amazing bridal fashion eye candy here, check out some fabulous real weddings here, and search for the North’s best bridal suppliers here.  I also tend to catch up on the week’s blog posts every Sunday, so you have joined us at just the right time.

.

Stay awhile and browse – the wedding blog is updated twice a day everyday without fail so there is plenty of prettiness to peruse, and if you like it here, be sure to leave a comment or two to say hello as it takes your fancy, enter a few of my giveaways and come back tomorrow y’hear!

So, on with the show.  I have had some lovely tweets and emails from the twenty winning readers loving their limited edition Brides Up North screen printed shopping totes designed by and featuring an original photograph from Assassynation this week – filled with some reading material courtesy of Wedding Ideas Magazine and Hitched Magazine and some other (mostly edible) goodies.  I am so pleased that you liked them ladies!

I just had to share a few of the comments left by my readers on the original competition post, as I feel that what these ladies had to say really sums up what Brides Up North is all about:

Stacey

September 7, 2011 | I love these totes, and will be very proud to carry one around Newcastle. The North gets a bit of a ribbing sometimes, but this site is helping turn the image around.

September 6, 2011 | What a fab idea! I love all the ideas and pretty pictures on here and it’s a breath of fresh air to see weddings from the North with suppliers that are local. Love it!

.

Deborah

September 6, 2011 | I don’t think there is anywhere else that showcases Northern wedding suppliers like this. Most of the wedding magazines have a Southern bias – no good to anyone planning a wedding in the best half of the country!

.

Samantha S

September 6, 2011 | Until earlier this year I didn’t have a clue about weddings, let alone all the fantastic wedding talent right under my nose! I’m checking Brides Up North on an almost daily basis cos I don’t want to miss out on something that’ll give me inspiration or might just be the icing on the cake!

Keep up the good work Julia! X

September 6, 2011 | Rock the Northern talent! Through Twitter I have seen some amazing work by some amazing people, but nothing is more satisfying than knowing it’s from round the corner!

Brides Up North Wedding Blog: Upcycle Challenge

.

Its also time to crown the winner of the Upcycle Challenge – in a nutshell, a bridal inspiration shoot sourced in it’s entirety from charity and second hand shops and comprising various essential elements – click here for all the details.  There were some stunning entries in the competition’s inaugural year – and it was evident that so much time and effort had gone into each one.  You can catch up on the entries here:

My fellow judge and wonderful wordsmith Emma Woodhouse of The Wedding Reporter and I deliberated long and hard, but in the end our decision was unanimous – which is a good thing as I think we could both be pretty stubborn if we wanted to be – and our winner is…

.

Team Love My Wedding!

.

Emma sums our decision up well:  Team Love My Wedding is my winner because of the attention to detail, the incorporation of current trends, the cohesive aesthetic, the imaginative reinvention of props and because I flipping love Mary Poppins! But you can probably leave the last bit out… (sorry Emma, couldn’t resist!)

.

I also think it has a charming elegance and exudes romance which, quite frankly, are two of my favourite things when looking for wedding inspiration. I can imagine brides would be able to take a great deal from it and use it in their own plans. There are lots of elements that would work individually outside the theme of the shoot. They also seemed to use a vast array of sources to gather their items from and that just goes to show how much can be ferreted out on a small budget.
